Hands of Maraisburg hosts the first clean up of 2026
The team cleaned their neighbourhood, tackling Shamrock Street.
The Hands of Maraisburg team is continuing their efforts of beautifying their neighborhood, with another successful clean-up held on Saturday, January 24.
For the first clean-up of the year, the team of dedicated volunteers were up early in the morning with spades, brooms, and grass-cutting machines, targeting under the bridge in Shamrock Street.
According to Hands of Maraisburg memberFazlin Samodien, the goal was to clear the pavement next to the old age home so that the community can walk safely on it. The team also cut the triangle that was overgrown with grass, and cleared some reeds and growth that was preventing water from flowing into a drain.
The non-profit organisation was established in May 2025 by community members who wanted to reclaim the beauty of the neighbourhood.
They have over the past year been involved in multiple initiatives that are bettering Maraisburg, such as service delivery meetings, educating about illegal dumping, etc.
Fazlin thanked everyone who showed up and urged community members to come through and show support as they need more hands.
