City Power is conducting a two-day (from September 22) meter audit in parts of Constantia Kloof, following the vandalism of the Panorama Drive No 1 mini substation.

According to a media release issued by City Power on Monday, September 21, the mini substation was vandalised last Friday, after coils were cut and oil was drained from the infrastructure.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said an investigation conducted on the same day found that the damage was extensive and the affected infrastructure could not be repaired.

The mini substation will have to be replaced before power can be restored to affected customers.

Audit to determine replacement

According to Mangena, the upcoming meter audit will determine whether the affected area meets City Power’s required 80% vending threshold for the replacement of the damaged infrastructure to proceed.

City Power has urged customers in the affected area to purchase electricity regularly and remain compliant with vending requirements during the audit. The utility has also called on residents to report suspicious activity around substations, mini substations, cables and other electricity infrastructure.
