Albertina Sisulu Road nightmare finally over
“After many years of struggling and requests from motorists and ward councillors, the road can finally offer motorists a smooth ride."
Poor road conditions in Roodepoort have for many years resulted in motorists being hot under the collar with many decrying over the poor state of Albertina Sisulu Road.
The infamous road and its massive potholes near Princess Informal Settlement has been an issue that Ward 85 and 71 Councillors Zonè Hughes and Rene Benjamin together with the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) have endured for many years.
On Friday, October 7 Benjamin sent a message to JRA informing them that the road was dry and asked them to take the opportunity to get the road fixed.
In September teams from Joburg Water, JRA, Pikitup, City Power and Building Control attended to a large pool of water on the road that developed because of the blocked sewerage system.
According to JRA, due to a variety of issues affecting the road, they have had many unsuccessful attempts to try and rehabilitate it.
“After many years of struggling and requests from motorists and ward councillors, the road can finally offer motorists a smooth ride. JRA has heard the call and today they started resurfacing the road making it safe to use once again. We hope that more will be done on our roads in the coming weeks, months and years,” said Hughes.
In an attempt to keep the road dry, trucks were on site on since Sunday, October 9 cleaning the drain and ensuring that the road stayed dry.
Joburg Water has been attending to the sewerages near the road every two days.
