Honeydew police arrest 57 illegal immigrants in Laser Park operation
Three business owners arrested and fined a total of R35 500.
Honeydew police assisted the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in cracking down on illegal immigrants.
Initiated by the DHA, multiple units held a sweeping operation across the Laser Park industrial area on Tuesday, October 18. While inspecting numerous business premises and questioning employers and their employees, police identified and arrested 57 undocumented immigrants. Additionally, three business owners were arrested and fined a total of R35 500.
The three employers were released after signing a J534 form which is an admission of guilt form that allows the individual charged to forgo a court appearance. While the arrested business owners will not face a magistrate, by paying the admission of guilt fine, it is regarded as if they have has been convicted in court on the charge will now have criminal record.
