Wilgeheuwel struggling without power

Another community member in Roodepoort is having difficulty with power outages.

A resident of Wilgeheuwel, Nisheren Naidoo, voiced his complaints regarding the difficulty they are experiencing with power outages.

On May 7 the power went out at 02:00 and only came back on at 21:00, Naidoo said at 22:30 the power was out again due to cut cables.

“We logged calls and emailed multiple people including Jacques Hoon, who never even responded,” stated Naidoo.

After driving around residents found Johannesburg City Power employees to assist on May 9, however, the power still did not return. On May 10 residents were able to get other JCP employees who assisted them at 15:00.

“Residents in the complex lost a lot of food and even sadder a resident lost their pet fish due to no pump. This is unacceptable now. The irony of this all is that as I type this email we have no power. There was another area outage. The power came back for about two minutes after load shedding and went out again,” concluded Naidoo.

Isaac Mangena, spokesperson for City Power said, “The customer must relog a call because it shows closed on the system. This was probably grouped under the MV outage which was resolved. If the customer is still out, then it must be a low voltage problem that the complex is experiencing.”
