New garden to greet community outside Honeydew police station’s Customer Service Centre
IIE MSA Cares and AK Landscaping carry out a project initiated by Honeydew Community Police Forum.
The partnerships built by the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) extend beyond the security cluster.
Driven by the CPF’s victim support team and assisted by IIE MSA Cares, the students beautified the area outside the station’s Customer Service Centre (CSC). Police stations can often have a cold and intimidating atmosphere but the new garden adds life and colour to an area that was once just sand. AK Landscaping added the technical expertise to ensure the work was done to professional standards.

IIE MSA put together a massive sponsorship of the plants and paving and the project strengthens the already close association between the entities.
“At IIE MSA we think it is extremely important for our students to understand the essence of community engagement and giving back to the community,” said student wellness manager Farhana Kamal.
The IIE MSA Cares committee consists of students who initiate community engagement projects and recruit other students to get involved in these projects. The committee, Farhana and the volunteers on campus initiate community engagement projects on and off campus.
Head of student experience at IIE MSA, Dash Reddy feels students understanding the importance of giving back to the community is a vital part of their learning.

“IIE MSA has multiple community projects and allows students to choose the project that they are most passionate about, however, most join all the projects,” said Dash.

This is the first of several projects that the CPF will be overseeing at Honeydew police station. The next project on the schedule will be the painting of the inside of the CSC. If businesses or volunteers wish to get involved or contribute via sponsorships they may contact the CPF to discuss how they may help.
