One arrested after hot pursuit in Wilro Park
One robber was caught after being sighted by a security company.
An alleged house robber was caught red-handed by local security teams on June 14.
According to Sheldon Grobler from Help24, their Tactical Response Unit (TRU) received a call for help on a community WhatsApp group regarding a house robbery in progress.
“A ‘be on the lookout’ [BOLO] was put out with a description of the robbers’ vehicle, within minutes our TRU had eyes on them along Wilgerood Road,” added Grobler.
He went on to explain that the robbers noticed their TRU on their trail and a car chase ensued. “Soon after that two more TRU vehicles joined the chase. The robbers were outnumbered,” explained Grobler.
Grobler stated that in an attempt to evade arrest after the robbers collided with two of the TRU vehicles, they abandoned their vehicle inside a shopping centre and ran in various directions.
“Fortunately our units were hot on their trail.”
According to Grobler, one suspect, the stolen goods from the robbery, and the vehicle was recovered. The suspect was taken into custody by the police.
Roodepoort Police was approached for comment, and as soon as it is received, an update will follow.
