Car caught fire near Clearwater Mall, no injuries reported
"While the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, and will form the subject of investigation, we are pleased to advise that no injuries were sustained by anyone on scene."
Motorists on their lunch break witnessed a vehicle engulfed in flames on Christiaan de Wet Road, close to Clearwater Mall yesterday afternoon, June 21.
According to Natasha Edwards from the Community Group Firefighter Association (CGFA), they received a call at 13:10 and the first CGFA member arrived on the scene five minutes later, with additional support arriving at 13:18.

“We were pleased to find City of Joburg’s Emergency Medical Services [CoJ EMS] on the scene with engine 18 running hoses to begin extinguishing the blaze,” explained Edwards, “while the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, and will form the subject of investigation, we are pleased to advise that no injuries were sustained by anyone on scene.”
The general consensus from those on the scene would be that South Africans are cash-strapped, often battling to meet their financial obligations.
It is often the case that vehicles, especially those outside of a motor plan/ warranty, are not being serviced at regular intervals, as most South Africans just cannot afford it at the moment.
The Roodepoort Northsider has asked for feedback from Xolile Khumalo spokesperson for CoJ EMS as well as Xolani Fihla from Johannesburg Metro Police Department. An update will be issued once feedback has been received.
