Massive overhead sign on Hendrik Potgieter Road meets its end with an abnormally loaded truck

An illegally erected overhead sign near Cradlestone Mall has been removed after being damaged by a truck carrying an abnormal load.

A truck carrying an abnormal load drove into and consequently damaged the integrity of an overhead sign on Hendrik Potgieter Road in the direction of Cradlestone Mall yesterday (August 29).

According to Corinda Loots from BCI Security, the collision happened in the evening and her team immediately contacted the local authorities to assist with removing the damaged sign before it fell onto oncoming traffic. The signpost, positioned near Sasol Featherbrooke, was removed by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s (DRT) emergency team later that night, according to ward councillor Shenan Cochrane.

Rumours are going around that the sign was put up illegally without going through the proper channels and acknowledging the bylaws and regulations. The Roodepoort Northsider has asked for comment from JMPD and DRT in regards to the bylaws.
