Passengers evacuated after bus engulfed in flames

Images of a Putco bus circulated on social media as it was reported to be on fire this morning on the Hendrik Potgieter offramp towards 14th Avenue, Constantia Kloof.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) responded to the incident at 07:50 and fortunately, no passengers were harmed and were evacuated safely.

The images show the bus engulfed in flames.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is still unknown and will be the subject of an investigation. Residents are urged to proceed with caution as the road has been cleared.

Putco spokesperson Lindokuhle Xulu stated that the bus company was aware of the incident and will investigate further.
