Foundation raises cancer awareness at Princess High School

Warriors with a Purpose is concerned about sanitary towels being a luxury rather than a need.

The Warriors with a Purpose Foundation has taken another action to educate and raise awareness among Grade Nine Princess High School girls about cancer and period poverty.

In many communities, young girls at the age of 14 may not know much about their health and well-being. That’s why the foundation has taken it upon themselves to educate and raise awareness when it comes to breast cancer.

At least 159 young girls were present to hear this insightful and informative information presented by the foundation.

According to the founder of the foundation, Rene Singh, Warriors with a Purpose creates cancer awareness, education, and hope among communities while also making them understand what to expect should their loved ones be diagnosed with the disease.

“My breast cancer journey encouraged me to start it. I wanted to start something that would help more people who had been diagnosed with cancer. They needed hope and support, no matter the background. I also experienced severe menstrual challenges before my diagnosis. Therefore, I am also in support of ending period poverty and creating cancer awareness at the same time,” she said.

In addition to educating people about cancer, these warriors also raised awareness about the need for sanitary towel donations. In many developing countries, many girls miss school each month because they cannot afford sanitary towels.

“The highlight for 2023 was doing two drives at Princess High. We had great feedback from the principal on how it had affected our young girls,” she added.

Joyful Meals was also present at the drive to supply the young girls with lunch for the day, alongside Maximum Styles Record and Publishing to entertain with music and dancing.

According to one of the school teachers who organised the event at the school, Mam Kgaugelo Huma, such initiatives are very helpful in needy schools.

“The section was very beneficial to our learners, and the food we got from Joyful supported our feeding scheme a lot,” she said.
