Local supermarket group donates to NPC

Bringing new hope and resources to those who need them the most.

Wings of Inspiration Care Centre is a non-profit company (NPC) based in the West Rand and they have recently received donations from the Checkers Group.

The NPC has 11 homes with 420 people that they care for weekly, from elderly to frail, women and children, and men struggling with addiction. They also have a playschool, soup kitchen, daycare for underprivileged children, and a dog rescue shelter.

According to a comment given by the Checkers Group, a substantial donation from the group enabled Wings of Inspiration to continue caring for hundreds of vulnerable people in the Roodepoort and surrounding areas.

The donation took place on June 11 and included groceries, toiletries and toys. The supermarket group has been supporting Wings of Inspiration since 2020 with regular donations of groceries and surplus food.

Gerda Bekker, care centre manager, announced their partnership with Checkers as volunteers, using donations to create parcels and support underprivileged communities in rural areas.

“As an organisation, our beliefs are to give everyone in our care a normal lifestyle, filled with care and respect. Through this donation, we can make sure the standards are met within our homes. However it does not stop there, we will be reaching out to the public as Checkers volunteers to assist in areas with food parcels, hampers and touching lives that might feel like they have been forgotten and spread a little bit of hope in very trying times,” Gerda said.
