Joscho employees give back on Mandela Day
Joscho employees spend 67 minutes sweeping the streets and cleaning a daycare centre.
On Mandela Day, many South Africans spend their 67 minutes volunteering and making a difference in their community.
The 67 minutes symbolically represent the number of years that former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela spent fighting for human rights and the abolition of apartheid.
On this special day, Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joscho) employees who are also residents of the Riverside complex in Fleurhof, chose to commemorate this day by giving back to their community.
They selflessly devoted their 67 minutes to cleaning a nearby daycare centre and sweeping the streets.
According to Violet Kgoane, who was one of the eight people, she is grateful to be part of a society that is committed to such initiatives.
“Our first democratically elected president is celebrated globally, and we could not watch and do nothing.
“We decided to do something to honour this great man, and in the future, we will organise with relevant departments to assist in clearing the sewage areas,” she said.
