Warm hearts and full stomachs: Good Samaritan feeds Witpoortjie community in the cold
RJ Atanga's selfless act of feeding the community brings joy and hope.

A Good Samaritan showed up outside the Caxton Joburg West’s offices on Tuesday afternoon, February 18, serving pap and beef stew to community members in the chilly wet weather.
For the past five years, RJ Atanga has fed people in the greater Roodepoort region daily and says it brings him great joy knowing everyone goes to bed with a full stomach.
He says he loads his car boot with the cooked meals, sets up serving stations anywhere in Roodepoort and warmly invites people to enjoy a meal.
“I thought it would be nice to give a warm plate of food to the community, especially in this cold weather,” he says. “As a Christian, I strongly believe in sharing.
“I cook and fund these projects by myself, and the menu is always different. We sometimes make chicken, potato chips and Russians.”
In addition to his daily meals, RJ says he also distributes food parcels to informal settlements and in areas of great need.
