Florida police serve the community in more ways than one

Florida police spent Mandela Day in service of the community.

Officers from Florida Police Station took to the streets on July 18, spreading Mandela Day cheer as they handed out delicious soup to residents at Donovan McDonald Retirement Centre and the Fleurhof Recreation Centre.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ivy Mabuso – who had spent the previous day and night making the massive pots of soup – they decided on making and distributing soup since this is the best way to connect with the community and address a pressing need at the same time.

“We were able to have a nice chat with the community members while serving them soup,” she says.

She even shared her delicious recipe with residents who asked after it.

“It fits perfectly with our mission to protect and serve the communities of Florida.”

Police were welcomed with open arms at both sites.

Lieutenant Colonel Sipho Dlamini adds, “It was a huge success. We managed to reach many vulnerable people with a warm, nutritious meal and a message of hope and support from the Florida police.”
