Multi-Charity celebrates new home

The Multi-Charity shop and Averille's Dog Parlour have officially settled into their new home.

After 28 years in their previous building at the corner of Anstruther Street and Frere Avenue in Discovery, Averille’s Dog Parlour and the Multi-Charity Shop have moved to 28 First Avenue in Florida.

Averille Botha, Florida’s doyenne of charitable fundraising and the owner of both the dog parlour and charity shop, says, although sadly, they had to move, there was no other choice.

Mornè de Beer and Pieter Lerm provide the tunes.

“We’ve run a book shop and a charity shop from our previous premises for years,” she says. “Conditions have changed so much in recent years that it simply made sense to merge the two charity shops, as this will enable us to continue, and even grow our charitable efforts for years to come.”

Dog whisperers Patricia Mlambo, Adolphina Nkgothoe, and Pretty Ngwenya man the dog parlour.

The big move was officially celebrated with a grand opening held at the new premises on July 12.

The who’s who of Florida made appearances throughout the day, visiting in the garden or browsing through the shop. Residents came from far and wide to join in the celebration, which featured everything from a ‘lucky fishing stall’ to delicious food and drink, and even a live band.

“It was wonderful,” says Averille, “we spent time with many old friends and met some new ones. We look forward to a long and prosperous future in our new premises.”
