Mpho Gracious Mulondo was recently awarded the Rising Star Award by the City of Johannesburg’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Forum at a ceremony held in August in collaboration with Westgate Shopping Centre.
Mpho, along with other women from Region C, was recognised and honoured for her outstanding community work.
She is a dedicated community volunteer who invests her time and energy in supporting children in her neighbourhood. She provides homework assistance, helps learners improve their academic performance and builds confidence in their studies. In addition to her educational support, Mpho also assists with the provision of meals to children, ensuring that they have the nutrition needed to focus, grow, and thrive.
She started this project in 2015 and has seen children grow from primary school to university.
“I’m doing this because of the love I have for children and for the greater community. I take care of them to prevent them from drugs, rape, kidnappings and other bad things happening in the world.
“My wish is to have a bigger space and turn this vision into a proper aftercare or a non-profit organisation taking care of children,” she said, adding that this award was a testament that she’s heading towards the right direction.
“When my name was called amongst other powerful women doing a great job in their community, I was very happy and honoured because I didn’t even for a single day think my work would be recognised. I’m doing all of this out of love,” she concluded.
