Hospital empowers expectant and new parents with informative session
As part of Pregnancy Awareness Week, Life Flora Hospital hosted a pregnancy awareness event with expert sessions focusing on before and after pregnancy.
In celebration of Pregnancy Awareness Week, Life Flora Hospital brought together expectant mothers, families, and healthcare professionals for a day of education, support, and connection.
According to the Maternity Unit Manager, Sister Caroline Boskovic, this annual event is aimed at empowering expectant parents, mothers, and their loved ones with knowledge and resources to navigate the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood.
“This is a highlight of our year, a time to celebrate the incredible journey of new moms-to-be and empower them with the resources and support they need, both during and after pregnancy,” she said.
The day saw a packed and informative session with a lineup of expert speakers addressing crucial topics for expectant and new mothers.

Dr Vinolo Poliah, a specialist psychiatrist, shed light on perinatal depression, discussing symptoms, risks, and the importance of seeking help, as well as the impact of motherhood on mental health, family dynamics, and relationships.
Sister Katinka Lategan, a nurse and midwife, took attendees on a journey through the critical 1 000 days of a baby’s life, covering growth, nutrition, health, and development.

Sister Marlette Visagie from ABC Care Training focused on baby-proofing homes, preparing for a new arrival, and equipping caregivers with the skills they need. Paramedic Brett Vincent concluded the day with vital information on performing basic CPR on babies.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with healthcare experts, ask questions, and share their own experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
