Young wrestler’s big vision
WELTEVREDEN PARK – New WWP wrestler Ultimate Nathan will see himself in WWE if he continues winning titles in the country.
A childhood dream for a young South African wrestler, Nathan Govender (19), is slowly becoming a reality as he hopes to join the elite wrestlers of the world.
‘Ultimate Nathan’ as he is known by the wrestling fraternity, is from Weltevreden Park and is increasing his exposure and reputation in the world of wrestling by competing in different recognised professional wrestling competitions.
Govender, who recently joined South Africa’s biggest wrestling organisation, World Wrestling Professional (WWP), said he used the festive season to train.
The law student at Varsity College said his priorities for the year were to ‘destroy the 031 Army’, which is a huge wrestling group in Durban, and to reign supreme in the African Punishment Wrestling Association (APWA) tournament.
Govender said a match was on the cards in February against one of 031 Army’s wrestlers.
The World Wide Wresting (WWE) hopeful, weighing about 85kg, currently holds the DPW inter-provisional championship. The wrestling star told Roodepoort Northsider that he has dedicated his entire life to wrestling and would be very happy to join WWE in the future. “Joining the WWE would mean a lot to me. This has been my childhood dream since I was three years old. I’ve dedicated everything in my life to pursue this career,” Govender said.
He became the youngest APWA Tag Team Champion when, with his partner, he managed to defend the title for 167 days. Govender also made an appearance in last year’s WWP Wrestle monster event in Port Elizabeth where he pinned his opponent using his stomach-breaking finishing called the ‘ultimate devastation’.
