Unleashing the passion for outdoor sports
Support SA talent is now in its third year and was spearheaded by ProTouch to recognise local road-cycling talent and create a platform upon which to build funding opportunities.
The weekend of 27 November was a very special experience for the Bushbuckridge Cycling Academy riders, who came to Johannesburg to race in the Satellite Classic with Honeydew-based ProTouch Continental Cycling.
The Satellite Classic offers road races (106km and 31,4km) and a mountain bike relay (four hours), which took place on November 28 and 29 respectively.
The young men, together with their mentor, Given Mashego travelled all the way from Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga and were treated to some brand-new Pro Apparel – Asia cycling kit from DelForno Group CEO, Sotiri Frantzeskakis – a new sponsor of the 2021 ProTouch Continental Team.
Rian van der Berg’s peloton assisted the men by arranging the Suomy glasses, and the Blueberry Hill Hotel hosted the young team.
ProTouch said to the Northsider that they look forward to seeing this young team’s progress when they attend their team training camp in January 2021 in Mpumalanga.

The non-profit initiative has been set up to assist in raising much-needed awareness and funding in order to support talented South African athletes, to compete at national and international levels.
The vision is to unleash the passion that South Africans have for outdoor sports and find innovative funding mechanisms to support South African talent.
The initial focus will be on cycling, with the intention to broaden this to include a wide range of outdoor sports in due course.
