Honeydew SAPS snatch late win against SWGC Masters

Nevertheless, SWGC Masters were responsible for much of their ultimate misery, although the midfielder Vusumzi Kula equalised with a sweetly-struck shot a few minutes after Honeydew SAPS first goal.

A West Rand SAPS Soccer League encounter between South West Gauteng College (SWGC) Masters and Honeydew Police got underway at the Davidsonville Stadium on Wednesday, November 16.

SWGC Masters thought they did enough to secure maximum points but like a bolt of lightning out of a clear blue sky, the visitors scored a last-minute goal that sent the hosts tumbling out of the top 8.

Largely shocked spectators witnessed a turnaround of events that saw the hosts lose the match after leading 3-2 for most of the second stanza.

The decisive winning goal in a 4-3 Honeydew Police victory, which maintained SWGC Masters nightmarish start and finish to the season, was scored from close-range by the Honeydew police’s midfielder.

But it was the bustling right winger of Honeydew Police, who created much of SWGC Masters misery by causing pandemonium in the host’s defensive unit.

Nevertheless, SWGC Masters were responsible for much of their ultimate misery, although the midfielder Vusumzi Kula equalised with a sweetly-struck shot a few minutes after Honeydew Police’s first goal.

After leading towards the final whistle, SWGC Masters failed to take advantage of a substantial slice of territorial advantage and they squandered some gilt-edged opportunities, particularly in the early stages when visitors were struggling to find their tune.

The match ended in a 4-3 victory for the visitors who moved closer to Carletonville Police on the log and for SWGC Masters, losing must indeed have been a bitter pill to swallow for now as the side showed a lot of improvement.

Roodepoort Police moved to the top of the log after collecting soft points from Carletonville Police who failed to honour the fixture on the day.
