Roodepoort parkrun in full swing at Len Rutter Park

Many came to enjoy the weekly run, where numerous runners were able to improve their personal bests.

The Roodepoort parkrun was in full swing again this past weekend, despite a lack of volunteers.

On August 19, many residents showed up to the weekly run in support of fitness and community. In total 367 runners ran, of which 37 improved their personal bests and 27 first-time runners.

The best overall recorded time was 00:21:55 achieved by Lester Carls. Twenty-three volunteers helped make the event possible.

Peter McDonald jumped in to help scan barcodes after he had completed his run.

Despite some of the volunteers dropping out, the event continued with the help of bystanders and even some of the runners. Peter McDonald, one of the runners stated he usually finishes the run in about 30 minutes and then asks if they need help with volunteers. He continued to say since the parkrun started in April 2012, they have only cancelled the event once, due to bad weather. They have however never had to cancel due to a lack of volunteers.
