Clearwater Mall and Panorama Running Club celebrate community athleticism with annual fun run
The 10km and 5km race featured prize money for the winners and coveted King and Queen of the Mountain titles.
The street beat to the pulse of soles on the tarmac on August 19.
Clearwater Mall and Panorama Running Club hosted their ninth annual 10km and 5km race and fun run. Over 3 000 runners streamed through the picturesque suburbs with its challenging inclines and welcoming vistas. Based on results compiled by Mobii Elite Timing, the fastest across the line in the 10km race was Nicolas Seoposengwe in 31 minutes and 29 seconds. Closely behind him was Jacob Malefe in 33 minutes and four seconds.
Little Falls Residents Association (LIFCO) and their partners assisted with marshalling duties and Panorama kept the runners hydrated.
“Thank you to Claire Fauchet and her LIFCO team. The Dinosaur was amazing, as well as all the encouraging boards along the route. To BCI Security, Westrand Security, and the Renegades team, thank you for your willingness to always step in and help ensure the safety of all concerned,” said Panorama Running Club chairperson André Morrison-Young.
Clearwater Mall marketing manager Jess Denner was ecstatic at the positivity and energy around the start and finish line.
“This is one of our favourite events throughout the year. The atmosphere and vibe are amazing, to say the least, from serious runners competing against time to entire families spending the morning together. Bringing the community together with one goal in mind to have fun. Already looking forward to next year for sure,” she said.
Humbly acknowledging a glitch in some of the pre-race planning, Morrison-Young added, “I would like to apologise to all our participants for the frustrations they may have experienced during in-centre registration and collections. I tried something new, and mistakes were made. Albert Einstein once said, ‘A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new’.”
Praising the support of Clearwater Mall, he commented, “Without your amazing support the event would not happen, so a special thank you to Jess and her team for your support and help in so many different areas.”
A combined effort of friends, family and athletic fever, the race will celebrate its 10th-anniversary edition in 2024. Morrison-Young promises a bigger and better event with the wheels already turning in preparation.
