Badgers Karate Academy shines at Fourways Challenge

Badgers Karate Academy athletes claim eight medals at the Fourways Challenge in Midrand.

Karateka from Badgers Karate Academy delivered an impressive performance in both Kata and Kumite at the Fourways Challenge Interclub Tournament, held in Midrand in May.

The talented team returned home with an impressive medal haul, consisting of three gold, two silver and three bronze, adding another proud chapter to the academy’s growing list of achievements.

Sensei Danika Stevens-Kotze expressed immense pride in the students who represented the dojo, mainly Omphile Dlamini, Leonella Cronje, Tamiquah Allies, Scarlet Knipe and Benjamin van Dyk.

She said the sport continues to play an important role in developing character, self-confidence, respect, discipline and perseverance among young athletes, qualities that were clearly demonstrated throughout the competition.

“Each student showcased significant improvement and quality performances. The results are phenomenal,” said Stevens-Kotze.

She added that the tournament provided valuable exposure for the competitors, allowing them to face different opponents and gain experience outside their regular dojo environment.

“This is a big achievement for our dojo. We had several students competing for the first time, yet they displayed remarkable excellence, determination and courage,” she said.

With the Fourways Challenge now behind them, the academy has shifted its focus to upcoming competitions. The team is currently preparing for the International Shorei Martial Arts Academy (ISMAA) Tournament on June 20, as well as the Gauteng Development Tournament scheduled for June 27.
