Holmes claims intercontinental title at Clash of the Warriors 3

Eighteen bouts showcased striking talent from across Southern Africa in an action-packed evening.

Combat sports fans were treated to an action-packed evening at Clash of the Warriors 3, held at the NG Kerk in Kloofendal on Saturday, June 13.

According to organiser Wade Rendall, the event brought together fighters from a variety of striking disciplines, delivering an exciting showcase of skill, determination and sportsmanship.

“The fight card featured 18 thrilling bouts, including K1 light-contact, hard-contact and full-contact contests. Competitors represented a diverse range of combat sports backgrounds, including Muay Thai, kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and karate, creating an entertaining mix of styles and match-ups throughout the evening,” said Rendall.

The highlight of the evening was the eagerly anticipated main event between Eugenio Delgado of Angola and Jayden Holmes of South Africa. The title fight, a rematch between the two competitors, was contested over five rounds for the prestigious World Kickboxing and Karate Union (WKU) Intercontinental title.

Delgado started strongly, controlling much of the action in the opening two rounds with relentless pressure and aggressive attacks. From the third round, however, Holmes found his rhythm and demonstrated why he is the South African welterweight champion. Displaying excellent conditioning, composure and technical skill, Holmes gradually turned the contest in his favour.

After five hard-fought rounds, the judges declared Holmes the winner, crowning him the new WKU Intercontinental champion in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Rendall described Clash of the Warriors 3 as a tremendous success, praising the fighters, coaches, officials and supporters who contributed to the event.

Anticipation is already building for the next edition of Clash of the Warriors, scheduled for September, as fighters look to redeem themselves or set new records.
