4 Welties boys selected for national soccer tournament
The boys will lace up to represent the district on the national stage.
Weltevreden Park Primary School (WPPS) is celebrating the success of four learners who have been selected to represent the district soccer team at the prestigious Bill Stewart National Tournament.
Joshua Okeke, Ofentse Choke, Rourke Taylor and Kenzo Rana secured their places in the district squad after impressive performances, earning the opportunity to compete against some of South Africa’s top young footballers.
According to the school’s marketing officer, Leane Danker, extracurricular activities are crucial in primary school because they drive a child’s holistic development by bridging the gap between academic learning and essential life skills.
“While the standard classroom curriculum focuses heavily on cognitive growth, extracurricular activities nurture a child’s social, emotional, and physical well-being and play a big part in building social skills, self-esteem and teamwork,” said Danker.
The tournament is regarded as one of the country’s leading youth football competitions, bringing together talented players from districts across the nation.
The school congratulated the four learners on their achievement, describing their selection as a testament to their hard work, dedication and passion for the sport.
“We are incredibly proud of Joshua, Ofentse, Rourke and Kenzo for this outstanding achievement. We wish them every success as they represent the district at the national tournament and look forward to following their journey,” Danker added.
Their selection is a proud moment for the WPPS community and highlights the growing success of the school’s sporting programme. The four players will now prepare to compete on the national stage, carrying the hopes of their district and school as they showcase their talent.
