Golfers swing into action to support Ebenezer Psychiatric Home

Golfers traded the pressures of everyday life for a day on the fairway as they came together to support Ebenezer Psychiatric Home during a fundraising golf day at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate on August 20.

The event brought golfers, sponsors and supporters together for a day of friendly competition while raising much-needed funds for the psychiatric home and its residents.

The golf day formed part of ongoing efforts to generate additional income for the facility, whose Department of Health subsidy does not cover all the needs of its residents.

According to Kerry von Buddenbrock from Ebenezer, the support from participants and sponsors showed the important role the community can play in helping the home remain functional.

“The golf day attracted 21 four-ball teams, while 19 holes were sponsored, demonstrating support from golfers, sponsors and members of the community,” said Von Buddenbrock.

The funds raised will go directly towards sustaining Ebenezer Psychiatric Home and supporting the needs of residents living with mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

For Ebenezer, the day was about more than raising money. It also created an opportunity to bring people together around a cause that affects the wider community.

Von Buddenbrock said the team hoped the initiative would have a significant impact on the home by helping nurture residents and maintain a safe and supportive environment.

“We hope to have a huge impact on Ebenezer Psychiatric Home,” she said.

The event also forms part of Ebenezer’s efforts to strengthen its relationship with the surrounding community and become a more active part of the Witpoortjie community.

The golf day demonstrated how sport can bring people together while creating meaningful support for organisations caring for vulnerable members of society.
