Wilro Lions bring back Gravel Grinder cycling challenge

Cyclists are invited to hit the gravel for a good cause.

The Wilro Park Lions Club is inviting cyclists of all ages and abilities to get back on their bikes for the long-awaited return of the Gravel Grinder on Sunday, September 27.

The event is open to mountain bike riders, hybrids, e-bikes and any other self-propelled bicycles capable of tackling gravel roads.

According to Sydney van Heerden, a member of the fundraising committee at the Lions Club, the race will start and finish at Rugani Juice in Tarlton and will feature two distances.

Cyclists can choose between a 40km route, described as a casual opportunity to stretch the legs, or an 80km endurance challenge for those looking for something more demanding.

“The race is in aid of Lions community projects. Men and women can enter, as well as children aged 15 years and older. U15s must be accompanied by a cycling adult,” said Van Heerden.

There will also be cash prizes up for grabs, with both male and female categories offering R500 for first place, R300 for second and R200 for third.

Entry for the 80km route costs R200, while the 40km route costs R150. Entries can be made on 2026WilroGrinder.co.za or by contacting Van Heerden on 082 635 9161.
