Vision Gymnasts, Lwandle Makamu, recently claimed a gold medal at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics District Competition held on August 22, marking another proud moment in her young sporting career.

The La Salle College Grade three learner participated in the Level 2 category and has been steadily making her mark in the sport.

Makamu’s achievement is even more remarkable given that she only started gymnastics two years ago. At last year’s competition, she finished with a silver medal in the Level 1 category, making this year’s gold a clear reflection of how far she has come.

Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, the young gymnast said the victory was a proud moment and showed that her hard work, dedication and regular training were paying off.

“Compared to last year, I have improved a lot in my training and during competitions. Before the competition, I was nervous because I thought I wouldn’t be able to do my pullovers.

“However, once I started competing, I became more relaxed,” she said.

With her sights set on bigger achievements, Makamu hopes to one day represent her team at the Olympics and compete at other major international events.
