City Power will be replacing faulty meters from 10 to 23 September in suburbs including Craighall, Parkhurst, Parktown North and Rosebank.
According to Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck, residents will be informed of this replacement by City Power officials.
According to a statement by City Power, they will be rolling out the meter installation project in regions A, B and F.
“Faulty, inaccessible, displaced and unaccounted meters will be removed and replaced with automated and semi-automated meters,” said the statement.
“The main purpose of this rollout is to upgrade and consolidate metering data to ensure maximum accountability pertaining to functionality, performance and vending of meters on site.”
City Power will benefit from the rollout of automated and semi-automated metres by maximising revenue collection, redressing billing queries, eliminating illegal connections and enabling the tracking of meters from stores to site. Customers will also be able to manage their own consumption.
City Power has urged customers who are not at home when City Power employees/contractors arrive on site to contact the City Power Metering call centre on 011 490 7484 to make arrangements for a visit outside office hours or on the weekend.
“City Power is warning residents not to allow any person, technician or contractor onto their property without first verifying credentials with City Power’s Security Control Unit on 011 490 7911/ 011 490 7553/ 011 490 7900.”
City Power employees will have a City Power identity card which will be colour coded for specific sections within City Power. The card will display a photo of the specific employee, their name, identity number and expiry date. A hologram of a firefly also appears on the card.
The utility warned residents to be aware of imposters and be highly vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles.
