Have you microchipped your pet yet? This is why it is important to do so

JOHANNESBURG – A microchip provides the owners' information.

A pet’s owner worst nightmare: A lost dog or cat and being unable to track their last steps or find them, but this all could be resolved if your pet is microchipped.

More and more places, apps and veterinary hospitals are offering at affordable prices for pet owners to microchip their pets.

Some veterinary hospitals, such as the Fourways Vet Hospital, offer to microchip your pet for R200, by using Identipet, which has data accessible for 24 hours a day. There is also an app available where you can receive immediate notification when your pet is lost, scanned by a pet organisation or a welfare organisation.

Chip’s can trace back which implanting practice or welfare organisation was used.

A microchip does not have a GPS tracker, a pet owner would need to get a pet tracker to know the exact whereabouts of their pet. A microchip only provides the owners’ information. However by getting your microchip is still very important.
