Lyons wholesale hands over donations to Hospice Wits

While celebrating 75 years of community service, Mr Lyons wholesale in Parktown donated a clothing collection to Hospice Wits in Orange Grove.

To commemorate 75 years of putting the community first, Parktown business Mr Lyons has established a partnership with non-profit organisation, Hospice Wits.

Mr Lyons’s owner Jenny Iorio said, “We are celebrating our legacy of seven and a half decades of service by partnering with Hospice Wits, a cause which mirrors our commitment to making a meaningful impact on the community.”

She added Hospice Wits offered palliative and hospice care to patients during their most challenging times. In support of this, the business started a clothing collection drive and handed over the first donation to the CEO of Hospice Wits, Jacqui Kaye, at a celebratory event on August 19. Funds raised from the sale of the clothes at Hospice Wits will go towards its patients and their families.

Kaye said Hospice Wits had been operating for 44 years and it was very dear to all their staff’s hearts.

“Our organisation has the privilege of providing dignity to patients with life-threatening illnesses. For this we are reliant on our shop which raises much-needed funds through selling any pre-loved items, from clothes and shoes to children’s toys and books,” she added.

“When you’re impacted with a life-threatening illness, your whole family and friends around you are impacted, there’s trauma, questions etc. So we step in to make sure that the family and everybody around is cared for and supported.

Kaye added they had counsellors, bereavement specialists, doctors, home care nurses and in-patient units. “So it’s a big organisation with a small number of staff who goes to anybody in any community and cares for them to make sure they are not impacted badly by a life-threatening illness. We celebrate the person’s life and make sure their dignity is intact.”

She concluded the partnership with Lyons would help support their fundraising initiatives, helping to extend their impact on the community.
