Children enjoy the Seussical play on the National Children’s Theatre lawns

National Children's Theatre Interim CEO Moira Katz said "For kids and families who grew up reading Dr Seuss books, this musical adaption will hold the attention of all."

The National Children’s Theatre entertains children with the Seussical play on November 19.

The theatre’s interim CEO, Moira Katz explained that the play encourages children to use their imagination.

“Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust which, when enlarged, turns out to be Whoville where the tiny people called the Whos live. Horton must protect his friend Jojo and other Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers. The powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and ultimately emerge triumphant.”

A parent, Miseyi Mkisi said she enjoyed taking her son to educational outings and plays.

Katz added the play had various themes for children to learn from.

“Children will engage with themes of being true to themselves and standing up for what they believe in. They’ll also tap into themes of responsibility, perseverance, kindness and caring.”

Another parent Michelle Venter said such outings were beneficial to children’s mental health.

The theatre’s trust, Cindy Gordon explained that unfortunately the production was interrupted by rain.

“It was a very disappointing afternoon for NCT and we are truly disappointed you did not get to watch a full performance of Seussical and share the magic of this beautiful production with us. Everyone will have the opportunity to rebook to see this production. Seussical will run until 22 December 2022.”
