Parkrun regulars beat their personal records at Atholl Parkrun

Atholl parkrun is held every Saturdays at Winston Ridge Park at 08:00.

Atholl parkrun’s regular members, as well as visitors, came out in numbers on the morning of July 11, to beat their personnel records in the form of running and walking at Winston Ridge Park.

Rhodé Potgieter and Jan-Hendrik Gous, who hail from Cape Town, said today was their 27th parkrun at a different location. “We’ve been in Johannesburg for a week and couldn’t miss an opportunity to join a local parkrun. We had fun.”

Danny Kamona, parkrun ambassador, said he enjoyed the synergy at Atholl’s parkrun. “As an ambassador, I manage existing parkruns, as well as look for prospective parks where we can develop and begin a parkrun for the community. The Atholl volunteer team has good energy that makes the parkrun a success.”

Kamona added that a good foundation among parkrun volunteers helped draw more members in from the community.

Andre Sinclair, another visitor from the West Rand, said he enjoyed his 5km at Atholl. “Today was my first time running after a two-week break from the Comrade’s Marathon I recently completed, and it felt incredible.”

The event, run over 5km, is organised by 17 volunteers and takes place every Saturday morning at 08:00.
