Employees from within the Rosebank precinct plant trees for their 67 minutes for Mandela Day
The Rosebank Management District encouraged companies in the precinct to plant trees and plants for their 67 minutes to improve the space.
Shovels, spades, and paint were the order of the day at Rosebank and Keyes parks on July 17 for Nelson Mandela Day.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo representative Rose Abdullah said the idea to plant trees was inspired by Mandela’s lasting legacy.
“We’re here to plant trees because, not only do they give us oxygen; they will last longer and contribute towards the environment.”
The two parks came alive as company employees, from within the Rosebank precinct, planted trees and painted sections of the parks as a way to give back for their 67 minutes.
Rosebank Management District’s manager Mikhaela Donaldson said it was important for the precinct to get involved for Mandela Day.

“As the district, we are committed to always looking at ways that we can assist and improve the community, and create spaces for people to use in the precinct that are open to everyone.”
One of the employees that took part in the event, Ruseven Naidoo, said it was fun spending his 67 minutes giving back by painting in the community.
Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated annually on July 18, to honour the life and legacy of the former president. The day was established by the United Nations.
The global movement asks individuals, communities, and organisations to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to helping others.
