Mandolin Prakash Trio

For the first time on a South African stage, three artists of this particular calibre present a new sound to our local audiences.

The ensemble’s sound is based on a strong confluence of the traditional South Indian classical art form fused with Spanish motifs and other world percussions.

The sound is founded on the joyous feet-tapping rhythm motifs of Spanish/Flamenco guitars fused with the exciting polyrhythm of south India and the melodic intricacies of raga.

The Indian meeting of Afro-Latin rhythm is channelled through virtuosic flights and improvisational forms.

For the first time on a South African stage, three artists of this particular calibre present a new sound to our local audiences combining the unique sounds of an electric Mandolin, a nylon guitarist on flamenco sounds, and a percussionist of note:

Prakash Hariharan – Electric Mandolin

Santhosh Chandran – Nylon / Electric Guitar

K. Parthasaarathy ‘Partha’ – Indian / Afro-Latin Percussion

The event is a true display of modern fusion blending the oldest of Raagas, with modern western music interpretations.

Free parking is available in Senate House; the entrance is on Jorissen Street, Braamfontein
