Zoo Lake swimming pool reopens at last, welcoming the community back to the water

After months of silence and shuttered gates, laughter and splashes have returned to Zoo Lake as the historic swimming pool finally reopens, repaired and ready for summer.

The familiar blue of the Zoo Lake swimming pool is once again alive with movement, marking a long-awaited turning point for a facility that has stood at the heart of the community for generations.

After months of closure and uncertainty, repairs to the pool have been completed, allowing residents to reclaim a space that many remember as the backdrop to childhood summers, family outings and spontaneous dips on hot afternoons.

The reopening follows sustained community advocacy and oversight visits that kept the future of the pool firmly in the public eye.

Now open to all community members, the pool is operating with updated and accessible pricing.

Monthly season tickets are available at R40 for children and senior citizens, while adults can purchase a pass for R80. Those opting for a daily visit can enjoy a swim for R7 for children, R10.50 for seniors and R21 for adults. Payments are cash only.

For regular poolgoers, the reopening is about more than just a swim. It represents a shared victory, proof that community voices and persistence can breathe new life into public spaces that risk being forgotten.

Parents watched proudly as their children stepped into the water for the first time, while older residents spoke fondly of returning to a place filled with memories.

The pool will remain open throughout the festive season, offering a welcome escape from the heat, but will be closed on New Year’s Day.
