Door-to-door assessment for Riverpark meters

RIVER PARK - City of Johannesburg officials will do a door-to-door assessment in River Park to resolve all technical problems relating to the pre-paid metering system.

The City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment and Infrastructure Services Matshidiso Mfikoe and City Power MD Sicelo Xulu will be conducting week-long door-to-door visits in Riverpark, Alexandra, to resolve all technical problems relating to the pre-paid metering system.

The objective of the visits will be to ensure that problems relating to faulty electricity meters, illegal electricity connections and solar water geysers are all addressed. Besides their respective teams, the MMC and the MD will be accompanied by the electrical contractors who installed the meters in the area.

A team from the police will carry out investigations and ensure that the disconnection of illegal connections are carried out where necessary. Ward councillors and community representatives will also form part of this initiative.

The media has also been invited to accompany the MMC and the MD as they address the above issues which led to widespread protests in the past three weeks in Riverpark. The visits began as from 10 July.
