Police received a tip-off from a member of the community about a man in police uniform who was in the tavern, which is situated at the intersection of Kotze and Twist Streets.
According to the police report, upon their arrival, the man was wearing a police jacket, and produced an appointment card (a police identity card).
He claimed that he was stationed at the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
Hillbrow police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said the police checked his details and discovered that his appointment card was fraudulent.
“We confiscated his fake card and the (police) jacket he was wearing before he was arrested,” said Zondo.
The suspect was expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
