Parkview police spokesperson Princess Mudau said the robbery took place early on a Friday morning.
“The woman said the men surprised her in her home. They were wearing balaclavas and pointed their guns at her,” said Mudau.
Mudau added the men demanded jewellery, so the woman gave them her wedding and engagement rings.
“The men wanted all her jewellery, which she said was upstairs. They took her upstairs, told her to lie down on the floor, and tied her hands up with a cable. She told them where the rest of her jewellery was,” she said.
The men then demanded dollars and pounds, which the woman said she did not have. They packed what they had taken into two bags.
They then went back downstairs, and the men asked the woman if she had a safe. She showed them one under the stairs, which they took.
“They also took a flatscreen TV, a cellphone and a watch. They then asked for the gate remote control, but she told them to push the gate button on the intercom,” said Mudau.
The woman was told to go into the cupboard under the stairs. The door was closed, and she heard one of the men make a telephone call.
They then fled the scene.
The value of the stolen goods was estimated at R50 000.
No arrests have been made.
