House robbed while workers have lunch

ROOSEVELT PARK - A Roosevelt Park resident's Scully Road house was burgled while his domestic worker and gardener ate lunch in an outside room.

According to Parkview police spokesperson Princess Mudau, the resident and his wife went out for the morning, and left their staff to work at home.

“He was surprised when he returned home just over an hour later to discover his gate did not open and their car had been damaged. When he went into the house, he found that the drawers and wardrobes in the bedroom had been opened,” said Mudau.

He asked the staff what had happened, and they replied they had been eating lunch in the room outside.

He also found that the study door had been forced open, but the robbers hadn’t managed to enter through it.

“They used the TV room to get into the house, as it hadn’t been locked,” said Mudau.

The couple discovered that an iPad, jewellery, a handbag, sunglasses, their passports, cash and a Samsung Galaxy Notepad, all with an estimated value of R240 000, had been stolen.

No arrests have been made.
