Students to call Maboneng ‘home’

An exciting new development in Maboneng Precinct will give students the chance to call this hub of creativity and city living, 'home'.

Remed’s View, the precinct’s first tailor-made student development, will give students not just a place to live, but a place to start a life.

Maboneng brand manager Hayleigh Evans said the development at 306 Commissioner Street was designed in collaboration with world-renowned street artist Remed.

The artist first visited Maboneng in 2012, when he participated in the Adidas I Art Joburg project.

“His work reflects the communities in which he paints and… illustrates his attitude toward life – inspired, in awe and very much alive,” said Evans.

With Remed’s work on the facade and throughout the building’s interior, the development will create an environment in which students can emulate that very attitude.

The building features a ground floor student centre with internet cafe and recreational facilities.

“The Student Entrepreneurship Emporium on the ground floor also allows students to have an on-site integrated work opportunity; a space to showcase and sell work while studying, as well as space to meet and collaborate with other students.”

In addition, the building will also have security features such as biometric access control, 24 hour security, CCTV and a building manager.

Evans said the apartments would give tenants a well-designed, comfortable space at an affordable price.

“With only 99 beds, each three-bedroom apartment has a shared lounge and kitchen area, complete with stove and fridge. Each bedroom comes with a single bed, desk and shelving unit. Each unit has its own bathroom with shower.”

Students who live at Remed’s View will have access to all the lifestyle benefits the precinct has to offer, including restaurants, entertainment venues, sporting and gym facilities, art galleries, museums and shops.

“There will also be an opportunity for students to meet and collaborate with some of Johannesburg’s most exciting people in the creative arts, design and more, through Maboneng community events,” said Evans.

“We’re establishing a new culture for students to extend themselves.”

The development is located close to the refurbished University of Johannesburg Doornfontein and Central Johannesburg College campuses. The monthly rental will include two daily trips on a private transport network.

It is also located less than 2km from Ellis Park sports precinct with its variety of affordable sporting facilities.

Applications are now open.
