Christmas party hosted for cancer survivors

The Hamilton Hotel in Rosebank hosted a Christmas party for children living with life threatening illnesses such as cancer from the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

The girls were treated to lunch and an afternoon filled with fun activities. They had their nails done, decorated cupcakes and their faces made up for a photo.

General manager of the hotel, Tasneem Osmon said the lunch was an opportunity to spoil the girls and was not just about serving them a meal.

Reach for a Dream representative Taryn Seegers said the children do not usually get to attend parties as they spend most of their time hospitalised, so the Christmas lunch and activities were a nice idea.

A 13-year-old girl, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, said 2013 had been a tough year for her so she was happy to have been spoiled a bit.

She said, “I was diagnosed earlier this year and felt sick most of the time but now I feel a whole lot better.

“It’s nice to have had this outing. I am not looking forward to getting my face painted with make-up and lipstick, but I am having fun spending time with the other girls and decorating the cupcakes.”
