Maboneng developer honoured by Forbes

MABONENG PRECINCT - Jonathan Liebmann, the driving force behind the trendy urban regeneration precinct, was honoured by a leading business and finance magazine.

The Propertuity property development company CEO was included in Forbes magazine’s 30 most promising young entrepreneurs in Africa list for the second time.

Liebmann welcomed the news and said, “Our work was recognised by Forbes last year, so it was great to be included in another Forbes list.”

Speaking about the development of the precinct, Liebmann said it began with the 2009 Arts on Main development.

“The success of that development was really what propelled the vision for developing a fully-fledged neighbourhood in the area around Arts on Main,” he said.

“It was always going to be a big project, but much of the neighbourhood’s development and identity has been organic and informed by its residents and those who interact with it.”

Liebmann said his love for the precinct was fuelled by its diversity.

“It is a neighbourhood that offers a number of interesting lifestyle and economic opportunities to people from a variety of backgrounds,” he said.

“It’s a ‘make it happen’ kind of place.”

According to Liebmann, the Mabongeng Precinct success story did not remain a local “best-kept secret”; instead it placed Propertuity among South Africa’s leading urban regeneration companies.

“The success of Maboneng has propelled partnerships with national and international projects that are doing the same, and this is an exciting next step in Propertuity’s growth,” he said.

Speaking about young entrepreneurs who hope to also be recognised by a leading business magazine one day, Liebmann said, “Do something you love, and become an expert at it.”
