1 arrested after dramatic Rosebank police shooting on Jan Smuts
Breaking news: Jan Smuts Avenue is closed from Dundalk Avenue in Forest Town near Saxonwold due to the shooting of a police officer. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and police are working to establish the events that led to the incident.
A police detective has been shot during an attempted stop on Jan Smuts Avenue in Rosebank on June 26, after a suspect allegedly opened fire on officers before being arrested.
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, detectives attempted to stop the suspect when he allegedly responded by firing shots at them. Although she added that information is still sketchy at this stage, one officer was struck by a bullet and rushed to hospital for medical treatment, and police have confirmed that one suspect has been arrested.

Police said officers had acted on intelligence about suspects allegedly planning robberies at shopping malls. A fourth suspect was arrested after a second identified vehicle was stopped nearby and is expected to face a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery.
