BRAAMFONTEIN – Hillbrow police arrested a man who was found in possession of an unlicenced firearm in Braamfontein.

Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said police were patrolling the area when they saw a suspicious man walking along the intersection of Joubert and De Korte streets. “They approached the man and searched him,” said Zondo.

Zondo said police, after searching the man, found a 9mm pistol and live ammunition on him. “He was arrested on the scene,” he said. The suspect appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition and he was remanded in custody.

The man is expected to make another court appearance for a formal bail application. “Criminals must know that police are all over and will not give them space to roam the streets freely. We will sniff them out,” added Zondo.
