Four murder suspects nabbed

Hillbrow police arrested four Zimbabwean suspects in connection with murder and attempted murder.

According to police the deceased was walking between Soper Road and Tudhope Avenue when he noticed four men hitting a man with stones and stabbing him with knives.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the deceased went up to them and tried to stop them.  Zondo said, “When he tried to break up the brawl, the four men stoned and stabbed him to death.”

He said the suspects then fled the scene. Zondo said a patrol van in the area was called to the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood.

He said the police called the emergency services who declared the 29-year-old man dead on the scene.

He said, “However the injured victim was rushed to [hospital] where he spent three days for the treatment of multiple stab wounds and injuries from the assault with stones.”

Zondo said the police followed a lead from the public and managed to arrest all four suspects hiding in pairs around Berea. The suspects were charged with murder and attempted murder. They appeared in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court and their case was remanded to 7 April this year.

Zondo said, “They were remanded in custody and will appear again for a bail application.”
