According to a statement released by the association, Sithole was travelling from the New Market Road onramp towards the M1 north.
“Four armed men emerged from a vehicle that had stopped in front of Lucas’s car in an attempt to hijack him at the onramp,” it was stated.
“Lucas’s vehicle was damaged, and both he and his brother, who was travelling with him, were dragged out of the vehicles, and had their cellphones stolen as well.”
Although Sithole was said to be shaken and traumatised, he was not physically injured or shot, and was recovering well.
Sithole thanked everyone for their support, thoughts and prayers. “I am glad my car, wallet and my life are still with me,” he said.
Holger Losch, coach and director of Wheelchair Tennis said, “We are extremely grateful that Lucas and his brother were not physically injured during the hijacking, and will make a speedy recovery from the trauma.”
