Electrical and water disruption warning for Parks residents
Parks residents may experience temporary water or electricity disruptions this week due to the work being done by Joburg Water.
The entity is conducting work in Parkview, excavating pipes and installing a ‘booster’ pipe. This is in an effort to minimise service disruptions in the future.
Ward councillor for Ward 87, Amanda Forsythe said the work was a much-needed upgrade of services in the area.
“Most of the water and electrical infrastructure in my ward, which includes suburbs like Parkview, Greenside, Westcliff, Forest Town, Parktown West and Melville, is extremely old and should have been replaced many years ago. I am pleased that departments like Joburg Water are finally heeding my call for upgrades,” said Forsythe.
The installation of the booster pipes should help with water pressure in the area – a problem residents of Parkview have been struggling with for some time now.
“As the councillor for Parkview, I welcome this project wholeheartedly. I have been requesting the upgrade of water and electricity infrastructure in my ward for the last three years in the Integrated Development Plan,”said Forsythe.
Millicent Kabwe, spokesperson for Joburg water said Parkview had been identified as a priority for infrastructure upgrades.
“We have a number of streets in Parkview that we are looking at, and this week we have a contractor working on Kinross Road, Tyrone Avenue, West Meath Road, Kerry
Road and Dundalk Avenue,” she said.
“This Pipe replacement project will support service delivery in the area and minimise service disruptions going forward. We are rolling this project across the city, prioritising those areas where we experience frequent burst pipes.”
Although the pavements will be dug up by Joburg Water, it will be the Joburg Roads Agency that will be tasked with restoring pavements and driveways once the project is done.
Spokesperson for the Roads Agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “The JRA will work with its sister entity Joburg Water to ensure the reinstatement of the pavements takes place once the upgrades to water pipes are completed.”
