Film offers rare glimpse into Roman Polanksi’s life
JOBURG - Director Roman Polanski's life has been marked by tragedy and scandal, making him one of the most controversial figures in the film world.
The Majestic Film Society will offer a rare glimpse into the Academy Award winning filmmaker’s life with a screening of Laurent Bouzereau’s documentary, Roman Polanksi – A film memoir in September.
The documentary takes the form of a conversation between Polanski and producer and actor Andrew Braunsberg that was filmed while Polanski was under house arrest in 2009.
“He talks candidly about his triumphs and tragedy, and his childhood amid the horror of the Krakow ghetto, the basis for his film The Pianist,” said Radio Today host and film commentator Selwyn Klass.
“[Polanski] also discusses the death of his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, at the hands of the Manson Family, and the controversy surrounding his arrest in 1977. [The film was] recorded at his home in Switzerland [and features] private and exclusive footage never seen before.”
Polanski was arrested for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
The film will be introduced by Klass, and will be followed by an English-style tea with light refreshments.
“Experience the eccentric quality and erratic genius of Polanski in this acclaimed documentary,” he said.
The screening will take place on 21 September at the Ditsong Museum of Military History auditorium, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold, at 6pm.
